Reading Between the Lines: Jeph Loeb on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

I select a few quotes and react to them. Recently, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. executive producer Jeph Loeb talked to TVLine last Saturday at the New York Comic-Con. He gave his thoughts on the how Agents has been and where it’s going.

We’ve absolutely found the show; the idea is to keep watching. It’s very much like a roller coaster. You’ve got to go up the hill before you start coming down the hill at 100 miles-per-hour.

– Jeph Loeb

Loeb attempts to bring some excitment. How much of a thrill rush can going up a hill be? It’s deadly to tumble down at such high speeds. How many roller coaster are on hills, anyway?

Very much in the same kind of way that the audience is getting to know these characters, these characters are getting to know each other as well.

I, and many others, aren’t as wildly enthusiastic. Rating declines are not surprising, but going from 4.7 to under 3 in the 18-49 demographic within a month is probably not ABC expected.

Last week, I said that the Marvel brand, not any one individual, is Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’s greatest asset (ahem). On 15 October, ABC will premiere the fourth episode of Agents entitled “Eye Spy.” Watch the preview:
