Let me start off by saying I absolutely LOVED Captain America: The First Avenger. I regard it as one of the best superhero origin movies ever! Moving forward, I went into Captain America: The Winter Soldier with high hopes that the sequel could surpass the first movie. I could not be more pleased with this sequel. If this is the quality of movies we can expect to see from Marvel Studios in the future, things will only be getting better!
Winter Soldier builds on its predecessor masterfully without repetitively spewing out the history of the first film. While keeping new fans in mind, Winter Soldier is a thrilling, action-packed film that has delivered the goods.
More of a Bond movie than a traditional superhero movie, this sequel helps bring the spy world to life and the true threat of the world to the forefront of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. By building on the ever-expanding universe, Winter Soldier adds depth to the agency known as S.H.I.E.L.D. while still providing new and exciting story lines and characters.
The expanded roster that this movie provides is beyond spectacular. With the addition of Robert Redford, Anthony Mackie, Emily VanCamp and Frank Grillo to the already amazing cast of Chris Evans, Samuel L. Jackson, Scarlett Johansson and Sebastian Stan, it is no wonder why this movie has lived up to the hype. With another winner under there belt, one is left to wonder what is next for the House of Mouse with Ideas.
Note: I, as editor-in-chief, do not want to be spoiled, but I’ve included it while trying to look away from it as much as possible. Consider yourself warned. -CR
The part where they introduced Arnim Zola in the first film is a HUGE payoff in this one, Winter Soldier is probably the closest ever in terms of being EXACTLY like the comic, Falcon is a bad ass, Crossbones is “born”, Hydra is the main villain and the bad guys…well, you don’t see them coming at all!! The trailer did a good job in giving you enough to know there is action, but nothing really about the story. And Batroc is a bad ass!!
