Charming one-shot published by Image Comics starring a grumpy costume clerk reluctantly putting on a witch costume for Halloween and soon enters a whimsical fantasy. Eve uses a sprinkling from Lewis Carroll and heaping homages to L. Frank Baum. The main cover especially sets up the Oz connection.

Eve, once frightened, learns to let go of her personal tensions. Thus she achieves, not surprisingly, a sort of fairy tale ending. No space is wasted on the characterizations. Eve’s co-workers, including a gentleman-jerk and a tyrant store owner, have their roles to play in Eve’s journey.

Reeder is up to the task designing Eve’s strange trip. Eve has a wide array of expressions; she never totally fits in either the real world or Halloween Town. Montclare lightens the story with some wordplay. Eve may feel awkward, but readers looking for a break from serious, doom-and-gloom comics won’t.
