Fantastic Four Finished With Flourish would be a good subtitle of this new tale starring Marvel’s insane assassin. Uatu the Watcher presents two main segments: Deadpool’s fight with the remaining Fantastic Four and Deadpool being evaluated at Ravenscroft Asylum where he meets Psycho Man.
Kills #1 is the initial step in Deadpool offing as many Marvel characters within this four-issue series. Much of the major fighting between DP and the Fantastic Four occur off-panel. At least one character makes a dumb decision. Within Kills are the expected surreal Deadpool dialogue and dark comedy. Bunn balances the subversive with the deadly serious. The ending of this issue will likely have readers re-think Deadpool’s sanity.
Talajcic gives each page a smooth, logical flow so readers can get easily into the story. Talajic and Loughridge give the comic a lighter art style than a typical gore-fest. But that matches the sometimes silly yet psychological mood that Bunn’s setting.
I don’t go out of my way to read anything Deadpool, but I enjoy surreal humor. Fans of the Merc with a Mouth will happily anticipate the ways DP will finish his mission. I’m looking forward to DP’s battle with the Avengers next issue.
