Episode 5, “Identity.” See also interview with character designer Robert Valley.
Beck loses identity disc to thief and gains amnesia. Beck and Tron, in disguise, meet Cobol in the seedy slums. Eventually, the duo finds the thief. Thief gets derezzed mid-speech.
New character debut: Lux. She’s the greatest action babe inside a computer this side of Trinity. She works with Cobol to capture Beck and Tron. Soon after, Tron and Cobol disc fight. Tron reveals himself then Lux, now convinced Tron lives, derezzes Cobol. Tessler’s guards enter and Lux sacrifices so Beck and Tron. Lux is gone before we get to know her.
All that and Tron admits to being Beck’s friend in a mushy moment. Oh, and Zed builds a remote-controlled exploding cycle mod. His test fails in front of Paige and the Renegade Task Force with Mara also looking. Both friends of Beck have a laugh about it.
If the COBOL programming language is as mean and nasty as Cobol was in this episode then I can see why Computer Science professors avoid it.
