Written and drawn by Barbara Coney-Jenkins.
Undead Serena Park, a.k.a. Serenade, concocts a killer lipstick that will aid her in avenging her dead husband.
I get Serena’s motivations and her moodiness. As a new reader, however, I’d advise other newbies to read the earlier issues to get to know the other characters. Serenade #10 is all about Serena.
One page where we see the lab needed more shading to establish its darkness matching the caption. I also would’ve liked a clear, plain font for lettering. It’s difficult to see words like “cocoon” in that font.
Coney-Jenkins develops a sense of anticipation to have her enemies kissed off the face of the Earth. She may have Serena covered up and sheltered but Serena isn’t hiding herself literally and figuratively. This one-woman monologue is all I needed to understand Serena and didn’t feel like a continuity dump.
