I’m an owner of an imaginary pop culture all-star squad. A fantasy of a different sort. Lots of baseball movies tend to make some of their main characters pitchers and sluggers. However, infield positions are difficult roster spots to fill. I took cursory research plus relying on memory to know exactly who would play where in the infield. Feel free to debate these:
Starting Lineup:
Pitcher: Henry Rowengartner, Rookie of the Year – He has an amazing fastball & taunting abilities. He takes advice from veterans well.
Catcher: Dottie Hinson, A League of Their Own – She has necessary old-school toughness and will keep Rowengartner focused.
First Base: Roy Hobbs, The Natural – Give the older Hobbs a less demanding position.
Second Base: Casey, Casey At the Bat – Few records exist of Casey but he’d be willing to fill middle infield duties.
Shortshop: Tanner Boyle, Bad News Bears – He and Casey could provide a volatile infield; just make sure they can handle a loss.
Jack Elliot, Mr. Baseball – He good enough to be a solid pinch hitter.
Manager
Earl Weaver, Earl Weaver Baseball by EA – He’s a savvy, valuable AI.
General Manager
Lisa Simpson from MoneyBART or Jonah Hill’s character from Moneyball – They’re both Sabremetrics geeks; take your pick.
Public Relations
Ray Kinsella, Field of Dreams – Inspirational figure from Middle America that fits well to promote the National Pastime. No legal problems using “If you build it, they will come.” as a slogan.
